Here’s what goes into the price, so you can walk in with a realistic budget.
What drives the cost of a custom AR-15
- The optic. This is usually the biggest swing. A basic red dot and a premium LPVO or thermal can be very far apart in price. Browse red dots, rifle scopes and thermal sights to get a feel for it.
- Barrel and upper. The barrel brand, length, profile and chambering, plus the upper receiver and handguard.
- Lower parts. The trigger, stock or brace, grip and controls. An upgraded trigger is one of the most common add-ons.
- Brand tier. Budget, mid-tier and premium parts can do the same job at very different prices. We’ll tell you where the money matters for how you’ll use the rifle.
- Accessories. Weapon lights, slings, mounts, magazines and anything else you want on the rifle at pickup.
- Configuration. A standard rifle, an AR pistol or an SBR. SBRs are NFA items, so they involve extra paperwork. See NFA and suppressor transfers.

Published prices vary a lot depending on what’s included. For example, Blue Haven Firearms lists tiered custom AR-15 rifles at $729.99 (Tier 1), $1,229.99 (Tier 2) and $1,799.99 (Tier 3) (source: bluehavenfirearms.com/custom-ar-15-rifle/, checked October 21, 2026). When you compare quotes, check whether the price includes an optic, a light, sling and magazines, or just the rifle.
Factory AR vs. custom build
A factory rifle is the quickest way to get an AR, and we carry hundreds of AR rifles from brands like Daniel Defense, CMMG, Rock River, LWRC and FN, plus AR pistols from CMMG, Great Lakes, Diamondback and SIG Sauer. A custom build makes sense when you want specific parts, a particular barrel length or weight, or an optic and light that are set up and ready the day you pick it up.

We only build with customer-supplied parts, including an optic, if every part is still sealed in its original packaging. If any part has been opened or used, we source the parts for your build instead.
How a PM Customs build quote works
- Tell us what it’s for: home defense, hunting, range, competition, or a suppressor host.
- Set a budget. Give us a number and we’ll build to it, or ask us to price a few options.
- Get a quote with the parts listed. Builds are quote-only. There’s no fixed menu.
- Build time is typically 5–10 days once the quote is approved and the parts are in.
- Pick up in Yukon by appointment. You’ll complete the federal paperwork and background check at pickup.
